The Irish Insurance Federation (IIF) is to sponsor a new insurance course within University College Dublin's (UCD) Bachelor of Commerce degree.
The IIF sponsorship will aid the resourcing of the insurance modules, which cover: the nature of the Irish insurance market, insurance regulation, Life, Savings and Pensions products and Reinsurance.
Since the Specialist unit was established, over 700 students have completed the modules.
Speaking at the launch at the Smurfit Graduate School, IIF Chief Executive Mike Kemp said: "The insurance industry considers Human Resources as a key element in the competitiveness of insurance companies operating in Ireland.
"We are delighted to establish this partnership with UCD's Faculty of Commerce in order to provide the industry with a well-rounded graduate intake, to reinforce its competitiveness."
Director of the Centre for Insurance Studies in UCD, Professor Ray Kinsella, said: "Our new partnership with the Irish Insurance Federation builds on previous support from industry leaders.
"This new initiative by the IIF provides a robust platform for developing the Specialism and reflects the pro-active stance of the industry towards education and investment in human resources."
