Proposals are 'very welcome', says Foil president Cutts

The Forum of Insurance Lawyers (Foil) has welcomed the release of Lord Justice Jackson's Review of Civil Litigation Costs, claiming it could herald the start of a "new era" for civil litigation.

The report, which was published earlier today, has recommended a number of sweeping changes to civil litigation, including the end of referral fees and the start of one way costs shifting.

Dan Cutts, president of Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL), said: "If all of the proposals come into effect it will usher in a new era for civil litigation.

"The proposals to give claimants an economic interest in the bringing of claims is very welcome.

“Clearly all the stakeholders will need to take some time out to consider the impact of the measures and ensure there are no unintended consequences."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
