Jenkins will succeed chief executive Pat McGorrian when he retires in July.

McGorrian has run the insurer since it merged with NU two years ago.

Hibernian holds 26% of the Irish general market and 13% of the life market.

Jenkins was managing director of Hill House Hammond for three years, before being appointed retail business director responsible for NU Direct, FordInsure and Hill House Hammond in early 2000.

When Jenkins moves, operations director Cathryn Riley will fill his position, while Ken Applegate, currently change management director, will become operations director.
