Tolson schemes division rebranded as Icon, writing PI business

Limit has acquired Tolson Messenger's schemes division and rebranded it Icon (schemes).

Icon, which will trade as a broker, will underwrite a range of business on a binding authority basis.

Among the business underwritten will be professional indemnity (PI), office cover and legal expenses.

A Limit spokesman said Icon had scheme arrangements with three insurers.

"Limit has been an underwriter of PI for Tolson Messenger since 1999, and it was given an opportunity to buy the business," he said.

The spokesman refused to disclose the number of clients using Icon schemes.

Limit upped its UK PI capacity by £12m this year.

The insurer is expecting to write £92m of UK PI business in 2004, which represents a 15% increase on the 2003 total of £80m.

The majority of the business will be written by Syndicate 386, though a small amount will be written by Syndicate 2000.
