The London P&I Club said it has completed the P&I renewal season on February 20, 2007, having recorded an increase of nearly 3m gross tons in membership during the course of the 2006/07 policy year.

The company said this brings the owned tonnage currently entered with the Club for P&I business to just under 36m gross tons, after taking into account the departure of a small number of vessels on which it declined to offer renewal.

Writing in the London Club News, Bilbrough underwriting director Michael Hill said: “The Club has once again emerged from the renewal season in robust health and in a strong financial position. The Club can now look forward with confidence to further growth, selectively managed to ensure that its current financial strength and stability, so valued by the membership, and a fundamental requirement of the UK regulator, are maintained.”
