Mondial Assistance is advising travel agents to ensure that travellers are aware of medical risks before travelling to far-flung destinations.
The company points out that more and more travellers are holidaying in less developed countries, which offer only basic medical facilities.
Mondial's travel and medical helplines are constantly updated with the latest information on medical and political situations around the world.
“We would advise travel agents to inform their clients to find out about the type of medical facilities they could expect to find there,” said a spokesman.
He added: “By using such services, travellers' medical expectations will be fulfilled in the unlikely event of accident or illness.”
