Zurich Personal Insurance has increased its twins and multiple birth insurance payouts for expectant mothers.

They will now receive a tax free lump sum of up to £5,000, an increase on the previous limit of £3,000.

The policy is available through London brokers, Marcus Hearn. It provides:

  • a benefit of between £1,000 and £5,000, and if more than two babies are born this benefit will automatically be doubled
  • premiums are based entirely on the family history of the expectant parents, the number of previous children and the expectant mother's age. The quotation is provided within 24 hours of receiving a completed proposal form.

    The premium must be paid and the policy put into place no later than the eleventh week of pregnancy, and before the first scan.

    Anyone who has undergone any form of fertility treatment is excluded.
