Insurer taps Canopius, Chaucer and Brit

Lloyd's insurer Markel International has madre three senior hires to its recently-formed managing general agent (MGA) division.

Jason Hodson and Jeff Clements have joined the division as underwriters. Hodson, who has 20 years' binding authority experience, was previously a senior underwriter in rival Lloyd's insurer Canopius's binding authority unit, while Clements, who has 15 years' binding authority experience, joined from Chaucer.

Markel International has also appointed Warren Towner as general manager of the MGA business. He will be responsible for the division's operational management. Towner was previously at Brit Insurance and has over fifteen years' industry experience. His career spans underwriting, claims, management information and group operations.

Markel International's MGA unit was established in July following the reorganisation of the company's non-marine property division. The division underwrites business on a delegated authority basis, principally from coverholders in the US and Canada. It participates on both 100% underwritten products and also on a subscription basis via Markel’s Lloyd’s syndicate.
