Scottish office moves and new underwriters join Markel

Markel UK, the retail division of Markel International, has relocated its office in Scotland to Glasgow.

On the back of the move, two underwriters have been recruited to complete the team led by Kelly Costello, the Glasgow branch manager.

Stuart Rae joins from Aspen Insurance and will focus on social welfare risks.

Michael Bolton, who joins from RSA in Glasgow, will develop Markel’s professional and management risks portfolio.

Kelly Costello said: “Although Edinburgh has served us well as a regional base for Scotland, we have relocated to Glasgow as it provides a much better commercial environment and is recognised as the centre of the Scottish insurance market.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
