The Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB) has started to send details of suspected uninsured vehicles to police forces across the country.

The Serious Organised Crime Act has been amended to allow the MIB to use its Motor Insurance Database to forward details of vehicles whose insurance policies have expired or been cancelled with no evidence of a replacement.

Recent trials have resulted in a ten-fold increase in arrests by police using the information in conjunction with the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) network.

Ashton West, chief executive of the MIB, said "the likelihood of being caught while driving an uninsured vehicle is significantly increasing...[and]...growing numbers of untaxed vehicles and unlicensed drivers are being identified. All across the UK, we are working together to drastically reduce the number of hiding places available to rogue drivers."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
