Labour leader wants to avoid claims ‘foot-dragging’ after 2011 riots

Labour leader Ed Miliband has urged the government to put pressure on insurers to pay flood claims quickly.

According to several reports, Miliband is seeking to avoid the “foot-dragging” over claims payments that occurred after the summer 2011 riots.

The Daily Mail quoted Miliband as saying yesterday: “Thousands of families have already been forced to abandon their homes and are now living with friends or family.

“They rightly want to know that this difficult experience isn’t going to be compounded by months or years of delay in receiving the insurance pay-outs that will enable a home to be made habitable as soon as possible.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
