Advertising Standards query Swiftcover ban on musicians

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is investigating whether Swiftcover’s use of punk rocker Iggy Pop is misleading as the insurer refused to cover workers in the entertainment sector, papers report.

The ASA said it has launched an investigation after receiving 12 complaints from those deemed ineligible because of their jobs.

Tina Shortle, marketing director of swiftcover.com, part of Axa, said: "Swiftcover.com chose Iggy Pop as the face of its advertising because he loves life, not because he is a musician. He is an actor demonstrating the benefits of swiftcover.com.

"Swiftcover.com strives to provide the best priced insurance to as many motorists as possible and is regularly named the UK's cheapest insurer."

The adverts of two other insurers have also been accused of being misleading, according to The Metro.

Esure, fronted by director Michael Winner, does not insure film directors and Sheilas' Wheels does not cover the pink Cadillac it uses in its adverts.
