Reports today speculated that the embattled Marsh & McLennan (MMC) would pay out $1bn in fines, compensation and settlement charges as a result of the Spitzer investigation.
According to reports, a settlement between Spitzer and MMC will be reached within weeks.
The settlement will be closely monitored by the UK government and UK regulators, reports said.
