Moody's, the international ratings agency, has downgraded its insurer financial strength rating for Copenhagen Re to Baa2 from A3 and put it on review for a further possible downgrade.

The agency said the move reflected its concerns about Copenhagen Re's "recent poor performance" as well as its potential exposure to the terrorist attacks in the US in September.

The reinsurer has temporarily suspended underwriting because of the attacks.
