Cornwall residents face increases following 2010 floods

A West Country MP is calling on the government to limit premium hikes for homeowners in flood-prone areas.

The local MP told Westcountry Tonight: "We will be continuing to work with the government on a long term solution to ensure insurance remains affordable."

The move follows reports some victims of last year's floods in Cornwall are being hit by massive rises in their home insurance.

One resident, Caroline Yates, was quoted a premium over two thousand pounds, compared to four hundred pounds the previous year.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
