CNA Maritime this week launched the first phase of a new internet-based insurance system.

The marine cargo insurer claims its new ocean marine manager network interface (Ommni) will give brokers, agents and potential customers access to immediate cargo quotes.

“The face of marine cargo insurance is changing and we intend to be at the forefront of driving that change,” said managing director Nigel Jenkins.

Following the completion of the first phase, smaller cargo customers will get access to pre-set commodity rates and automatic underwriting resources.

The next stage of development will automate handling of annual cargo policies for all the insurer's existing customers who wish to use the technology.

Brokers can be linked via their own websites to the Ommni site, while customers that access the site will automatically be directed to an agent.
