Royal & Sunalliance (RSA) is pressing ahead with plans to enable brokers to transact commercial products over the internet as a further extension of its Enterprise underwriting initiative.
The UK number two insurer intends to roll out a total of five commerical products on the web, starting early next year with its office commercial package.
This will be followed by its shop, commercial vehicle, small business combined and contractors products.
Brokers will be able to use RSA's Enterprise fully transactional system to obtain quotes and documentation for these products online.
The online system will be fully integrated with RSA's four commercial customer service centres in Leeds, Birmingham, Hertford and Glasgow.
Staffed by more than 100 underwriters, they provide advice and administrative support to brokers using Enterprise.
Simon Cooter, small business manager at RSA, said: "We envisage there will be clear advantages to brokers trading on the internet, not least a reduction in paperwork and associated costs."
"We are constantly seeking feedback from brokers," he said.
He added that the Enterprise initiative had proved successful in attracting new commercial work to RSA.
Within the past six months the insurer has written up to £10m of new business.
Cooter said RSA ultimately planned to position its Enterprise internet service within a general insurance portal on the web, similar to Misys' i2i system.
