Swiss Re's Kyrill costs
Swiss Re said Kyrill, the winter storm that ravaged Europe two weeks ago, could cost the insurance industry up to €3.5bn. However, the reinsurer highlighted that its hedging strategy had limited its expected exposure to a "modest" €140m.

Market faces IT shortage
The London market is facing the prospect of an IT talent shortage, Room Solutions' commercial director Ameet Dave warned. He told a meeting of the Acord IT club that the skills needed to support the Market Reform Group's changes could be in short supply.

Equity seals Nissan deal
Equity has secured a motor affinity deal with Nissan Motor (GB). The three-year partnership will see Equity-backed Free to Go private car policies offered to 17,000 Nissan customers.

Towergate student policy
Towergate Chase Parkinson will underwrite a STA Travel policy geared towards students and young travellers. The policy will be available via STA's 50 branches across the UK and on its website.

JLT's Malta launch
Jardine Lloyd Thompson joined Elmo Insurance to launch JLT Risk Solutions (Malta), a captive management operation in Malta. The company is expected to become fully operational in early 2007.

Sterling's Mondial deal
Sterling Insurance will underwrite a new range of policies from bespoke warranty assistance provider Mondial.

Willis chief retires
Richard Bucknall, vice chairman of Willis group and chairman and chief executive of Willis Ltd, is to retire in March. He will be replaced by David Margrett.
