Third on the shortlist is Laura Horrocks, Sedgwick’s head of fraud technology and intelligence.

Since joining the firm in January 2022, Horrocks has been at the forefront of changes to the firm’s technology, process and operations within the insurance market by introducing several digital solutions.

She also led the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) counter fraud software, which has driven a 31% improvement in pinpointing fraud, a 16% reduction in false positive results and £852,000 in direct fraud savings.

Horrocks, who has been shortlisted for Technology Champion of the Year for the first time, said the technology landscape was “constantly changing”.

“We must be engaged to understand how new developments will help the industry manage emerging risks and improve service delivery,” she added.

“The best results are achieved by using a suite of digital tools that empower colleagues to make consistently fast and accurate decisions.”

’Honoured’

Prior to Sedgwick, Horrocks worked as an intelligence analyst at Keoghs and a claims handler for Capita.

She also recently appeared in the BBC’s ‘Claimed and Shamed’ documentary series, which takes a detailed look at insurance fraud.

Speaking about being nominated, Horrocks said she was ”honoured to represent women in the technology industry”.

“It’s truly amazing to be recognised alongside such high-quality nominations,” she said.

”Winning this award would send a clear message about Sedgwick’s strong focus on combining the best technology with the best people and I’m proud to be a part of that.”

The Technology Champion of the Year will be revealed at an awards ceremony at the Royal Lancaster London hotel later this year (21 September 2023).

And this year there will no voting – instead the final decision will be in the hands of the Insurance Times editorial team.
