Specialist farm insurer NFU Mutual has acquired two provincial brokers, Wells and Drysdales, for undisclosed sums.

Both brokers have strong personal lines portfolios but also underwrite commercial lines insurance as well.

NFU acquired Wells in November last year, and Drysdales earlier this month.

NFU has a network of 600 tied agents across the country, but these were set up to sell farm insurance. NFU wants to expand into non-farming areas.

However, NFU refused to discuss its plans to develop the two broker accounts.
