Estimate doubles. State insurer to cover NZ$2m of claims

New Zealand’s Finance Minister, Bill English, said the Christchurch earthquake was now expected to cost NZ$4bn, double initial estimates, Bloomber reports.

It says Treasury Secretary John Whitehead told the New Zealand Herald the state-run insurer, the Earthquake Commission, would pay out NZ$2m.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
