Jetset pet owners can now buy cover on the web. Lloyd's insurer Kiln is underwriting the first online pet travel insurance scheme called pet-travel.com

The site is linked to internet entrepreneur Darryl Mattock's new venture – rapidinsure.co.uk – where a range of insurance services including accident, household, life, travel and office are available.

Pet-travel.com offers insurance for dogs and cats up to ten years old travelling with their owners to the Continent.

Benefits include :
- £2,500 of veterinary and emergency expenses
- £5,000 for cancellation
- £1,000 for curtailment
- £750 for death of the animal
- £750 for theft or straying of the animal
- £250 total for the costs of any enforced quarantine on return to the UK.

Cover is available for single trips or annually. For example, taking a pet to Europe for 14 days costs £17.50 (including Insurance Premium Tax) while annual cover costs £50 (including IPT).

Henry Glasse, Kiln's pet-travel.com underwriter said: "Being able to access pet travel insurance on line enables owners to take out cover any time they need it. They won't have to wait for normal business hours; better still take out the annual cover."
