Your article, “MPs in last ditch attempt to force U-turn on plaques” (News, 8 November), misrepresents my comments.

I did not suggest any lack of understanding by ministers on pleural plaques.

Quite the reverse: it is because ministers do appreciate that pleural plaques are not a disease and do not develop into mesothelioma or other asbestos-related diseases that they will not look to legislate on this issue.

While it is true that there has been some misunderstanding surrounding pleural plaques, it has certainly not been on the part of ministers.
