844 speed cameras in Lancashire, 29 in North Yorkshire

Auto Express magazines has found motorists in some regions of Britain are 12 times more likely to be given speeding fines and points on their licence than in other areas, The Telegraph reports.

In Northamptonshire one in six cars were caught speeding, running red lights, using a mobile phone or driving uninsured.

One in eight drivers in North Wales have been caught speeding and received licence points compared to one in 100 in Durham.

The 14,856 fixed speed cameras and mobile speed gun sites are spread unevenly across England and Wales. There are 844 in Lancashire, compared to just 29 in neighbouring North Yorkshire.

Merseyside police gave one in very 100 drivers points on their licence for using a hand-held mobile phone. In Leicestershire, it was just one in every 500.
