Travel specialist continues to strengthen senior management

The Preferential has appointed Mick Jacobs as its chairman, with immediate effect.

The appointment follows the continued expansion of Preferential and the overall strengthening of its senior management team.

Mick Jacobs formerly held various management positions at Optimum Underwriting, the Group’s underwriting arm. He will join Steve Nickerson, managing director, and David Marshall, finance director of Preferential, assisting with the strategic development of the Preferential Group.

Nickerson said: “I am delighted that Mick has taken up this position. He has a wealth of specialist knowledge, both in underwriting, travel insurance and business development and will add to the strategic growth of the group.”

The Preferential Group specialises in travel insurance, and provided policies for over 3 million travellers in 2006 through its three separate divisions: the business-to-business division, Preferential Insurance Services; the underwriting division, Optimum Underwriting; and Preferential Direct, which is the group’s consumer facing operation.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
