Backchat received an interesting call this week to prove that there is truth in advertising after all.

A broker had called RBS motor insurer Privilege, which is currently claiming it will beat any renewal quote for motorists with a minimum of four years' no-claims discount, only to find the price offered was more than he was currently paying through Fortis.

"No problem," said Privilege. "What's your current quote?" They then promptly slashed hundreds of pounds off to undercut it by £1.

Backchat would be interested to know what the underwriters at Privilege, slaving away over their risk profiling, think about all this.

Oh, and a message to Fortis. Mr Broker was not going to be bought for a pound. He stuck with you.
