Rapidinsure.co.uk moves into motor
Online insurer Rapidinsure.co.uk is expanding into motor insurance and will be offering the service to its 50,000-strong customer base as well as new customers.
Rapidinsure's motor cover will offer quotes provided by a panel of 17 insurers.
The insurers involved include Norwich Union (NU), Royal & SunAlliance (R&SA) and AXA, as well as other specialist niche underwriters.
Quotes will be available either online or from a call centre.
Zurich web bank goes live
Zurich Financial Services launched an internet bank last week, aiming to net 300,000 customers in five years.
The insurer put £90,000 into zurichbank.co.uk and put the project together with the Bank of Scotland.
Zurich's venture will cross-sell its insurance products to customers.
It guarantees current account customers will receive interest at 0.5% below the Bank of England base rate, which now stands at 4%.
Conveyancing cover
The Premier Guarantee, a range of products covering latent defects, has launched insurance cover for houses that are less than 10 years old and which have structural defects.
For these houses, banks and building societies usually request a structural warranty against the risk of latent defects before a mortgage can be provided.
In the absence of such a warranty the entire conveyancing process can be brought to a halt while the appropriate cover is obtained.
Primary launches dog-owner offer
Insurance provider Primary Direct has launched a cross-sell initiative that offers customers savings on their home and pet insurance costs.
The direct insurer is offering its home insurance customers a 5% discount on their combined buildings and contents policy if they own a dog.
This increases to a 10% discount if the customer also possesses a Primary Direct pet insurance policy.
The creation of the offer follows company research that found 13% of homeowners believe that burglars are deterred from committing their crime when there is a dog in the house.
Egg cuts travel insurance costs
Online financial services provider Egg has reduced the cost of its travel insurance products and included winter sports cover at no extra cost.
Cover includes single and annual multi-trip policies.
It also offers special rates for individuals, couples, families and single parent families.
Customers can choose cover for travel in Europe only or worldwide.
All Egg travel policies grant access to free 24-hour medical emergency and legal helplines.
