Motor insurer Provident has promoted Carol Geldard to head of direct distribution and Sue Coffey to head of broker distribution.

Both will report to managing director James Reader. Geldard has also been appointed a member of Provident's executive committee.

The move follows the departure of business development director Mark Thomson, which Insurance Times revealed last month. The company said at the time that it had no plans to replace Thomson directly, but that a number of personnel changes were underway.

The insurer has also promoted Shaun Kelly to head of business innovation, reporting to Geldard, and Barry Street to head of engineering, reporting to claims director Adrian Furness.

“These new appointments reflect Provident’s commitment to growing our business and the continuing development of our strategy," Reader said in a statement. "The expertise and knowledge of our management team is second-to-none and it’s great to announce these well-deserved promotions."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
