Job prospects in the insurance industry are healthy and almost back at the ten year high reached two years ago, according to a quarterly survey of recruiters by employment services company Manpower.

After questioning 2,146 employers, Manpower has concluded that the insurance sector has recovered from a recruitment freeze in 1995 and has enjoyed consistently good prospects in the last two years.

The survey showed that almost 30% of insurance employers have recruitment plans for the October to December period, while 10% are planning to reduce staff numbers.

The positive balance of 20 compares favourably with the finance sector at minus 7, and food and drink manufacturing at plus 13. However, job prospects are best in the retail sector (58), and telecommunications (31).

A Manpower spokesman said: "Insurance employers' confidence appears to be right in the middle of the service sector, with prospects looking much better than for finance workers".
