Liability claims are on the increase due to changing social attitudes and a rise in blame culture, according to Lloyd's underwriter Simon Lotter.

Lotter, an underwriter for Marketform, was addressing ANRA (the association of Italian risk managers) at a conference run by ANRA and Lloyd's in Italy.

He said that European companies are more susceptible than ever to liability claims - particularly public, pollution and professional negligence claims.

He advised companies to take a range of steps to minimise their liability exposures, including looking closely at contracts, ensuring subcontractors have good liability insurance and using risk managers to use historical claims data to manage, and better forecast, common causes of claims.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
