The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) is to hold its first ever national water safety congress to find out why approximately 570 people drown in the UK each year.
The congress, to be held in Blackpool on September 24 and 25, 2001, is expected to attract over 160 delegates and will provide them with new research, legislation and government initiatives aimed at reducing drownings.
Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
