Royal & SunAlliance chief executive Bridget McIntyre and a group of employees recently returned from a trip to China (which, Backchat hears, included a fair few stints on the karaoke machine).

The group were surprised to find that, on arriving at the airport, they were greeted by a fleet of gleaming black limousines.

Apparently, they had been mistaken for royalty, on account of the company name, and were being treated accordingly.

Incidentally, new R&SA broker boss Paul Donaldson is understood to be quite keen on karaoke – although he may overrate his talents.

At the insurer’s Biba dinner McIntyre was keen to stress that Donaldson was hired for his insurance knowledge.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
