A number of Lloyd's underwriters have launched a legal battle against City law firm Reynolds Porter Chamberlain (RPC).

Syndicate 1087is suing the solicitor for £150,000 in a row over an insurance claim.

According to a High Court writ, the syndicate, headed by John Collyer, has accused the company of negligence and breach of contract during its retainer as solicitor and loss adjuster between July 2000 and July 2004.

The row centres on an insurance claim made by policyholder Salamander under a household insurance policy, the writ said.

Initial stages of the case are being handled by procedural judge Master Leslie, who will decide how the legal action goes ahead and in what form.

RPC and solicitor Wilkins Beaumont Suckling, which is representing the underwriters, were unavailable for comment.
