A south London insurance broker has accused Royal & SunAlliance of "double standards" over differences in quotes for buildings cover.

The broker – who has asked not to be named – claimed RSA was quoting through LloydsTSB £148 for £150,000 worth of cover in one particular road, while the same cover through RSA's Choices Extra direct product is £244.

He said: "This seems like there are double standards in place again, and the difference in premium shows that RSA is now not wanting to do business with brokers in the local area."

RSA did not deny the price difference, but a spokeswoman said each of its three divisions – direct, broker and affinity – has its own tailor-made products to suit customers.

She said: "There will, therefore be occasions when one division is able to offer a similar product or cover at a cheaper premium than quoted elsewhere within the group."
