The Government's new Road Safety Strategy will focus on fleet drivers. Prime Minister Tony Blair has endorsed this new road safety initiative, which plans to cut road deaths by more than a third.

Part of the initiative is a new study that will investigate fleet car safety and examine ways of reducing work-related road traffic casualties.

The police and the Health and Safety Executive are set to play principal roles.

Liberty Motor has also launched a new scheme Skilldrive tailored at fleet operators.

Fraser Dryburgh, of Defensive Driver Training said one-day courses in driver awareness will help reduce insurance premiums.

Motor insurers Dial Direct have also supported the government's plan to implement 20mph speed limits outside schools.
