Standard & Poor's has announced that its ratings and outlook on British Airways (BBB-/Negative) will not be affected by the potential disposal of its DBA affiliate, or by the £394m pension accounting shortfall.

An S&P director, Virginie Casin, commented: "The existing ratings on British Airways incorporate the expectation that the airline will significantly reduce its cost base, dispose of noncore assets, and simplify its business over the coming years. The sale of DBA would be a small step in the right direction on all accounts.
