Building repair network Sergon BRM is planning to launch a direct business this year.

Sergon's managing director Arthur Rackstraw said there was no launch date set as the arrangements were still in the very early stages.

"We are still working the numbers and it's a big project," he said.

"There are problems in the building industry and certain shortages in the skills sector. We will try to bring a new approach and the only way to do this is create our own direct force."

Rackstraw said this would give Sergon better control and improve the delivery of its service. He said this would not affect the company's existing arrangement with GAB Robins.

Rackstraw said plans included recruiting a brand new direct force and developing the service as a business to consumer (B2C) internet operation.

"We will sell direct over the internet as our systems are all web enabled," he said. "This will provide a continual workflow to contractors and keep them employed."
