Complex and lengthy passwords for computers do not lead to better security, says computer guru Jakob Nielson.

Nielson believes it just leads to people writing the passwords down, often on post-it notes stuck to their computers.

He recommended simpler passwords that could be remembered by users and pointed out many ecommerce sales were lost because potential customers were deterred by having to enter a unique password.


The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
