Fire damage restoration firm Munters is dealing with a record number of lightning strikes on homes as storms occur across Britain.

Munters urges householders to unplug all aerials, satellite cables and computers to prevent lightning entering a property.

FFDR turnover up
Fire and Flood Damage Restoration (FFDR) has increased its turnover to £3m in the four years since its inception.

Latest annual results from the company, which specialises in salvaging flood and fire-ravaged properties, show a year of growth, with turnover for 2001-2002 rising by 78%.

Use mediation
Legal expenses specialist Mondial Assistance has urged insurers to consider mediation before launching legal actions.

National sales manager Steve Hook said: "The average individual is not aware of the strength and flexibility of alternative dispute resolution [through mediation or otherwise]."

The company also said that mediation had begun settling the smaller disputes such as consumer; property/neighbour; and smaller injury matters.

US health abroad
Healthcare insurance provider Goodhealth has launched a new product from Bermuda that will allow residents of Central and South America, Mexico and the Caribbean to access medical treatment in the US.

The scheme, Global Health Plan, was developed for expatriates and local nationals in these regions and offers policyholders a range of US medical features.
