Swiss Re has named Frank O’Neill (pictured) as its new UK and Ireland chief executive, replacing Russell Higginbotham.

Higginbotham, who has headed the global reinsurer’s UK and Ireland business for the past five years, was appointed head of life and health reinsurance products in October 2015.

O’Neill has been chief executive of Swiss Re’s Middle East and Africa business for three years and has worked at the reinsurer for 18 years.

Swiss Re Europe, Middle East and Africa reinsurance chief executive Jean-Jacques Henchoz said: “We are delighted that Frank will be leading our UK and Ireland business.

“It is a market that is undergoing tremendous change and new opportunities are emerging all the time for industry participants.

“As our largest European market we want the UK to continue to be led by a high-calibre leader to carry on the great work done over the last five years by Russell Higginbotham.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
