Max Taylor, the outgoing chairman of Lloyd's, is joining the giant broker Aon from January 2, 2001.

He announced in July that he would step down from his current position, saying that there was no longer a need for a full-time chairman following the completion of the reconstruction and renewal programme for Lloyd's.

"I was attracted to Aon for many reasons, including my profound respect for Pat Ryan (chairman and chief executive) and his talented leadership team," he said.

"After three stimulating years at Lloyd's, I am greatly excited to be joining Aon which is a dynamic powerhouse in the financial services industry."

Taylor has an impressive track record in the information technology developments for the insurance industry in his 27-year career.

He was a board member of the US insurance industry's communication organisation, the Insurance Information Instititute, and is a former chairman of the London Insurance Market Network (Limnet), and a past director of the World Insurance Network (Win). Taylor is currently a director of these organisations' successor, Wise, the worldwide insurance ecommerce body.

He is also a past chairman of the Lloyd's Insurance Brokers Committee and is the current president of the Insurance Institute of London.
