Regional managing director is among those to leave

Mike Lawton Towergate

Towergate has completed a shake up of its Midlands broking business, Insurance Times has learnt.

Regional managing director for the Midlands, Paul Watts, has left the consolidator. Watts was placed on gardening leave by mutual consent in December.

Nottingham office managing director Mike Smith has also departed after Towergate decided not to extend his probation period.

Andy Bedford, who runs Towergate’s Hinckley office, has taken over in a dual role as interim managing director for Nottingham.

The third departure is Sutton Coldfield managing director Mark Minton, who was also on his probationary period. Stoke branch managing director, Peter Worthington, has picked up responsibility for this office.

The changes have been orchestrated by Towergate’s broking division chief executive, Mike Lawton, who joined from RSA in June.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
