A massive 63% of brokers have no web site and only ten per cent have plans to develop one, according to a survey of 4,000 brokers around the UK.

This is despite the fact that two thirds of brokers have access to the internet in their offices and a further 19% plan to become connected in the near future.

On the upside, around 60% of brokers who have a web site are proactive with it – using it to sell products – rather than simply as a tool to build brand awareness.

Link Insurance, which carried out the survey, said that it was investigating how to educate brokers about the benefits of trading on the internet.

"What's needed is a clearer understanding of the process of setting up a web site and how it can make a significant contribution to the development of their business," said Link marketing manager Tim Cadel.
