Equity buys NI broker
Equity Insurance Brokers acquired County Antrim broker Diamond Insurance. The purchase increases Equity's presence in Northern Ireland to 19 branches, further strengthening its position as the largest retail broking operation in the province. First published 7 November
ABC appoints broker head
ABC Insurance, part of the LV= Group, appointed Stephanie Mercieca as broker operations manager. Mercieca previously held operational management roles with RBS Insurance, Chubb Insurance and AXA Assistance. First published 8 November
Accountancy warning
The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) needs to assure the insurance industry that it won't decide the next phase of its insurance accounting project, according to Neil Coulson, a partner of CLB Littlejohn Frazer. Coulson said: "It is vital that the IASB is attuned to the industry in order to draft proposals that are practical to implement and will improve the general understanding of insurance accounts by the investment community.” First published 8 November
Fleet auction site launch
Direct Fleet Insurance, an online auction service for fleet insurance, has been launched. The service allows a fleet operator or broker to submit details of a fleet, and insurers ‘bid’ for the policy.

Canopius for Singapore
Canopius is set to establish an underwriting operation in Singapore using the Lloyd’s Asia platform. The venture will focus initially on building an Asian treaty reinsurance account, with marine and energy, and property lines likely to be added.
