Broker network Westinsure has negotiated a special home insurance policy, through insurer AXA, for its West Country customers.

Westinsure marketing director Michael Pavey said insurers had begun to recognise the West Country as an area lower in risk than most other parts of the country. This would allow the new Homesure policy to boost Westinsure's share of the home insurance market.

"The more clement weather and lower crime statistics mean that the region is in general a safer place to be. So it's about time our clients started to reap some of the benefits of living in this part of the world," he said.

Homesure is available only to people living in the West Country and is traded only through electronic data interchange (EDI) systems.

Pavey said this meant the policy could compete on price and cover with the best in the market, including policies offered by telesales and internet insurers.
