French insurers’ group raises costs predictions for storm

Bernard Spitz, the president of French insurance company association FFSA told French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche windstorm Xynthia will cost around €1.5bn euros, Reuters reports.

"The damage caused by sea water flooding is in fact worse than has been seen in previous catastrophes," Spitz told the paper. "Cars, house insulation, household equipment have been more seriously damaged."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
