Zurich lists world’s biggest insurance disasters

Zurich North America has listed the world’s ten most mega disasters chronologically as:

  • 9/11 - 2001
  • SARS - 2003
  • 2003 US/Canada power outage - 2003
  • 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami – 2004
  • Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma – 2005
  • Financial crisis – 2008
  • China earthquake – 2008
  • H1N1 pandemic - 2009
  • Iceland volcano - 2010
  • Floods in Europe and Pakistan – 2010

Zurich released the list ahead of the REBEX 2010, Regional Risk Management Conference & Exhibition, in Wheeling, where it will present 10 lessons learned from the "Top Ten Mega Disasters".

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
