Colin Ivory and Andy Barr-Sim appointed as senior underwriters for XL Insurance's UK Middle Market team

XL Insurance, the global insurance operations of XL Capital Ltd, today announced the appointment of Colin Ivory and Andy Barr-Sim as senior underwriters for its UK Middle Market team.

The team is headed by Denis Burniston, who joined XL Insurance last December as Chief Underwriting Officer, UK Middle Market. XL says the new team will help XL Insurance to extend its offering, providing products and services for UK based and international middle market companies with an initial focus on Liability and Contractors All Risks (CAR).

Ivory has worked in the International Liability business, both as a broker and an underwriter, while Barr-Sim has worked as a specialist CAR/Liability underwriter. Both have over 30 years experience in the London Market.

Eileen McCusker, XL Insurance's Chief Operating Officer, UK & Ireland region, said: "We are delighted to have two experienced underwriters joining our team to further strengthen XL Insurance's UK Middle Market initiative. At XL Insurance we understand the importance of long-term client relationships and with our expanded team we will be able to serve more brokers and clients across the UK regions."

Burniston said: "We will be working closely with the national brokers outside of London, as well as those that use London wholesale brokers to access Lloyd's. Colin and Andy are well known experts in their field. They have a good understanding of the needs of larger middle market companies and their brokers."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
