Three independent Yorkshire brokers, Atkinson Smith, D E Ford and Rixon Matthews Appleyard, have merged to form the ProAktive Group.

The group will have a combined premium of more than £40m.

Atkinson Smith and Rixon Matthews Appleyard have fully merged their insurance broking businesses, with D E Ford taking a minor shareholding role and the option of further integration in the future.

The financial services divisions of the three brokers have been formed as separate companies. They will continue to work with ProAktive's insurance brokers, said the group.

Jon Whiteley of ProAktive Group said: "We have moved into an exciting phase of growth, focusing on the quality and value of our services. Our ambition is to achieve strong new business growth."
