Zurich Municipal has established a service designed to help local authorities respond to disasters, from localised major incidents to devastating national emergencies.

The company said the service will ensure local authorities meet the requirements of the Civil Contingencies Act, which is due to come into force later this year.

Zurich Municipal said under the Act local authorities must be able to respond to large scale emergencies and have publicly available business continuity plans in place.

The new service, said Zurich, would help local authorities to identify risks and reduce them where possible. It would also help to establish action plans aimed at mitigating and responding to a range of incidents, it said.
